These tools are a subset of the tools found in the full Windows NT 4.0 Resource Kit, and include tools that are new or updated from previous Resource Kit releases.

Following is a brief description of the tools included in this download:

APIMON.EXE API Monitor: Monitors the API calls made by a process.
BROWSTAT.EXE Browser Status: General-purpose network browser diagnostic tool.
DEPENDS.EXE Dependency Walker: Displays a hierarchical diagram of the dependent modules of an executable or DLL.
DHCPCMD.EXE DHCP Administrator's Tool: Command-line utility that you can use as an auxiliary tool to administer DHCP servers.
DHCPLOC.EXE DHCP Server Locator Utility: Command-line utility to determine which DHCP servers are available to a DHCP client and to detect an unauthorized DHCP server on a subnet.
DISKSAVE.EXE DiskSave: Saves and restores the Master Boot Record and BootSector as binary image files.
DNSCMD.EXE DNSCMD: Enables user to administer and obtain statistics from local and remote DNS servers.
DSKPROBE.EXE DiskProbe: Allows users with Administrator privileges to directly edit, save and copy data on the physical hard drive that is not accessible in any other way.
DUMPEL.EXE Dump Event Log: Dumps an Event Log to a tab-separated text file.
FIXACLS.EXE Reset System File Permissions: Resets the NTFS file and folder permissions of system files for Windows NT Server or Workstation to their default values.
FTEDIT.EXE FT Registry Information Editor: a new GUI utility that allows you to create, edit, and delete fault tolerance sets for disk drives and partitions of local and remote computers. It improves on the functionality of the command-line utility SHOWDISK.EXE.
GFLAGS.EXE GFLAGS: Enables a developer or system administrator to edit the NtGlobalFlag settings for Windows NT Server or Workstation.

LIST.EXE LIST: Displays and searches a text file.
LOGEVENT.EXE Event Logging Utility: Enables you to make entries to the Windows NT Event Log on either a local or remote computer from the command prompt or a batch file.
LOGOFF.EXE LOGOFF: Logs off a user from the command prompt.
MEMSNAP.EXE MEMSNAP: Takes a snapshot of memory resources consumed by running processes.
NETTEST.EXE NETTEST: Tests the state and functionality of a network client.
NLTEST.EXE NLTEST: Helps perform administrative tasks such as forcing a user-account database into sync, getting a list of primary domain controllers (PDCs), forcing a shutdown, and querying and checking on the status of trust.
NTEVNTLG.MDB Windows NT Event Log Database: This Access database file lists messages and related information from the Windows NT Event Log.
NTMSGS.HLP Windows NT Messages: This Help file lists most of the error and system-information messages generated by the Windows NT operating system, providing explanations of each message and suggestions on how to correct the problem. Some messages generated by applications or device drivers have been included as well.
PMON.EXE Process Resource Monitor: Monitors process CPU and memory usage.
PPTPPING.EXE PPTP Protocol Testing Tool: Verifies that the required protocol and port for Point-to-Point Tunneling Protocol are being routed from a PPTP client to a PPTP server.
PVIEWER.EXE Process Viewer: Displays information about a running process and allows you to stop (kill) processes.
REG.EXE REG: Enables you to add, change, delete, search, backup, restore, and perform other operations on registry entries from the command prompt or a batch file. It can be used on both local and remote computers.
REMOTE.EXE Remote Command Line: Allows you to run command-line programs on remote computers (named-pipes connections only).
RPCPING.EXE RPCPING: Can confirm RPC connectivity between Microsoft Exchange Server and any of the supported Microsoft Exchange Client workstations on the network.
SC.EXE SC: Provides a way to communicate with Service Controller (Services.exe) from the command prompt to retrieve information about services.
SHUTDOWN.EXE Remote Shutdown: Allows you to remotely shut down or reboot a computer running Windows NT.
SNMPUTILG.EXE SNMP Troubleshooting Tool: Graphical utility that replaces the older SNMPUTIL command line utility which system administrators can use to obtain information from SNMP manageable systems on the network.
TLIST.EXE Task List Viewer: Displays a list of tasks, or processes, currently running on the local computer. For each process, it shows the process ID number, process name, and, if the process has a window, the title of that window.
UPTOMP.EXE Uni to Multiprocessor Utility: Upgrades your operating system from single-processor to multiprocessor.
WINDIFF.EXE File and Directory Comparison: Shows the differences between specified ASCII text files or folders of ASCII text files. This is particularly useful for program source code.
WINSCL.EXE WINSCL: Administrative tool for managing Windows Internet Name Service (WINS).
WSREMOTE.EXE Winsock Remote Console: Provides the ability to start a console application on the server and connect to it from the client using sockets or named pipes.

Installation Instructions

The Windows NT 4.0 Resource Kit Support Tools are available in one self-extracting, compressed executable file. This file contains a master setup program and all of the files necessary to install the Windows NT 4.0 Resource Kit Support Tools and documentation on your machine.
